We said good bye to Colin for a few days because he was going straight to Marrawah and we started a little round trip to explore the Island. But after a few kilometers we had to rest and get the sleep back that we did not get on the ferry the last night. 3 hours later our heads and bodies seemed to be recovered and ready for a week of exploration.

It takes you about three and a half hours to go from the north end to south end of the island so this is a rather small island. But the landscape is so diverse that one could spend weeks and more to get into all the details.

Cradle Mountain Nat. Park

Highlands very much like some of the areas in Scandinavia, mountains which sometimes catch snow even in summer on one side and rain forest with waterfalls, lots of lakes, white sand beaches and untouched wilderness on the other side make it worth more than just a glance. Not even to mention the unique wildlife: the Tasmanian Devil, Wombats, Pademelons, Echidnas and of course the marine life. Tassie is a paradise for all those who like to go fishing.

After visiting the Walls of Jerusalem - a rugged looking mountain range – we drove up and down the mountains in direction to Strahan and Ocean Beaches. We arrived at night and the roaring sound of the breaking waves gave a promising feeling for the next morning. But when the sun came up the waves had already vanished. So we decided to go inland again and do some hiking at Lake St Clair in the Cradle Moutain area. There is a beautiful camping spot right at the crystal clear shores of the lake. The next day we did a 6 hours walk and I had to face 5(!) Tiger Snakes (one of the most poisonous in the world) which were sitting on the path basking in the sun. Somehow I survived the heart attack and fearfull way back to our car and the next day we were heading off down to Hobart - back into civilisation.
